okay, I asked first so no one will jump down my throat about it later. :-p
After the kitty is all shaved and on the O.R. table, the doctor covers all but the incision site with a sterile drape and makes a vertical insicion. It is usually under an inch in length. Then he sticks a blunt hook into the abdomen through the hole and starts probing around for the uterus. Sometimes he just pulls up gut but he stuffs it back and keeps hunting. When he finds it, he breaks the membrane that keeps the uterus in it's usual shape and ties off the artery that supplies blood to the two horns. Then he severs it and pulls out the two horns. Then he clamps off the uterus just where the two horns meet and sutures just below the clamp and severs it between the sutures and the clamp. Then he tosses the uturus in the sink for the techs to deal with (they LOVE that) and closes up the incision.
