Cat Had a Stroke--Help

Hello

Does anyone have any info on cat strokes? I have my cat home and he is still trying to walk but has to drag himself. What can I do to help him learn to walk?

Have you taken your cat to a vet? There is usually an underlying heart problem that needs treated immediately when a geriatric cat is suddenly dragging its rear legs. It can be a life threatening problem and needs to be seen right now if your cat has not already seen a veterinarian.

If he HAS seen a veterinarian, you might ask for a consult with a veterinary rehabilitation specialist.

Yes he has been to the vet and was there for 4 days. He was given some steroids and antibotics. He is attempting to stand and does try to walk but only gets a short distance before he lays back down. I think it might be a slow process but he is eating when I feed him and dragging himself to the litter box. I am just not sure how to try and rehibilitate him... Do I try and make him stand? How much should I work with him before its to much?

What was his diagnosis? Is he on any anti clotting or heart medications as well?

As far as working with him, it's really something you and your vet should discuss. If he was diagnosed with Aortic Thromboembolism (aka Saddle Thrombus), this is potentially a very long and complex recovery.

Thank your for your time answering. I will see the vet with him again on WEd and go from theere.

It does not seem to be something they have much information on. He does not have a heart condition at all. He is eating more today.
