Cats & Water bottles

What's the deal with the old wives tales (UK) about a 2 litre pop bottle filled with water scares cats away in the garden?

Does anyone elses neighbours do this, I'm not sure where it came from but I've never seen it work and it looks like you have litter in the garden hehe

I have seen this in lots of gardens and also seen cats in the garden - I've even seen a cat use it as cover, belly crawling over it to ambush a bird.

They don't work, anyone disagree??

Well I guess that wive's tale has stayed mainly in the UK. I've never heard of it (I'm in the US) There isn't a logical reason why it would work unless someone stood out there and poured the water over the cat and then I'm sure you'd have no problems getting rid of the cats that way.

hehe exactly, and guess what...cats drink water, so they can't be that scared of the sight of it.

Maybe it's just a thing on my island (where Manx cats are from) rather than England etc... still funny though

No my nana used to do it and she's from Scotland. I was only very little when she last did it and I doubt it worked cause she doesn't do it anymore!! I remember them being in the garden though!
