I never gave my cats catnip because I thought they didn't like it. That sounds really silly but that's what I always though. : P
I mean, I was eight at the time, so maybe I misunderstood what happened with catnip toys. Either way, we generally don't get catnip.

But we've always fed them dry food. And not even that great of dry food. My mom's always been a stickler about buying expensive cat food, so the poor guys get whatever my mom was willing to pay for. I've heard that dry food isn't that great for them, but my Hunter who's going on twelve-years-old next spring, has been nothing but healthy most of his life. I was also told that wet food was like fast food for cats. : P I don't know who told me that though. Wet food does seem better for them, especially when it comes to proper hydration.

I guess I'd like to go with a mix of wet and dry eventually.

Mine get mostly dry; I do supplement with wet to increase the fluid intake. I'm switching dry brands at the moment as I have a suspicion that one of my kitties has a food sensitivity (gonna try grain-free Wellness). It's so hard to know what the best choice is! One of my girls is super-picky with wet foods (won't eat any of the actual meat, but loves the gravy) so I think I'm pretty well stuck on the dry.

I'd be interested in the cat forum link as well.

Okay that's wierd. Never heard of that one! Anyway I feed my cat dry food everyday and give them canned food once in a while as a treat.

My kitties each like their own food. they all have favorites in the wet food section, except for Snow. All she does is lick the gravy and then continue on with her dry food. As for catnip: cat's usually need some sort of stimulation. I give Catnip to my cat D.D. once or twice a week and he loves it he licks it right off the floor. Some of the other cats could care less about it. It depends on the cat really.

Some cats actually have quite serious reactions to cat nip so it should be used sparingly and in a controlled environment. Should the cat show any signs of a reaction that is unfavorable to it, it should not be used again.

Mint should also be kept away from cats.

All the cats that have stayed here were all for the wet food and would be fighting to be left out first to get to it

My in-laws feed their slightly overweight tabby a prescription Science Diet for her weight. It's a dry food. I think they stopped feeding her wet because she gained a lot of the weight from it.

Our Siamese only get dry food. We tried wet food as a treat and they showed no interest, they licked the goo and juice off it and left the actual food... Our vet says the dry in better for their teeth and digestion anyways so no big loss I suppose.
