kathydip is on a distinguished road

food allergies

After the scare I decided to switch the kids to newman's own cat (and dog) foods. That was on April 2nd. Well, a little over a week ago l noticed that Tyler was chewing his stomach up. His fur was thin and he had terrible red sores. At first I thought we were going to have to have blood tests on him next. I thought something bad had to be going on. Then I realized that it could be the food. Even though the food is organic and the chicken they use are not fed antibiotics it seems he was allergic to it. I switched him back to his regular Purina sensitive systems food on Thursday or Friday. His stomach already looks so much better. I am not seeing him biting at it all the time like before. The sores are still there but they are not inflammed and red looking. The sores are definitely healing. I am so relieved that is all it seems to have been. I cannot believe that he was allergic to organic food. I see organic and think that it is pure and good but I guess there still can be an ingredient that they are allergic to.
I do feel bad that I caused him to be itchy and sore. My poor old kitty.
