Mama Kitty Mood Change

Our kitty Missy is 3 years, 11 months old. We had been planning to have her spayed this summer, but she got out of the house one day and got pregnant. She had 3 beautiful yellow boy kittens on April 4. The birth was traumatic as she went into labor in the early morning and delivered one kitten, then labor didn't progress. We brought her to the vet who gave her a shot to strengthen her contractions because as far as he could tell she had enough room to deliver them. She had two more shots over the course of the next several hours. Finally he said he thought their might be a "mummy" kitten blocking the exit, so he asked if we wanted him to do a c-section and spay at the same time. We told him to do that, and the other two kittens were born safely. One had been stuck by the head when the cervix tightened around him, preventing him labor from progressing.

Missy recovered reasonably well from the surgery. She had some constipation for a few days, but other than that, she healed well and she has been taking excellent care of the kittens who are now up and walking, stalking and pouncing each other. Missy has always been a happy cat--very mellow with not much bothering her and she has always purred very easily. The past few days though she seems unsettled. She meows like she wants something, but when we give her the usual things she wants (more food, some cuddling, a break from the kittens outside), she just meows more and doesn't seem happy. We were wondering if having been spayed at a later age might be affecting her mood? Could her hormone levels be changing now a month after the surgery? Will our happy cat come back?

Any thoughts or ideas appreciated.

I am not sure if her hormones could still be changing but with her just having the kittens and the spay my guess would be that she still could be changing. Also maybe it's getting close to weaning time. Maybe that is the change?
Hang in there. All my female kitties were affectionate after their spay. Okay - not Chrissy - but I think that is because she never liked having all the other cats around.

Thank you so much for your input. If its hormones then well deal with it. If its not, and shes going to be grumpy forever then we will deal with it:-) shes the baby. I love her no matter how grumpy she is. As long as shes comfortable.
