Have never been on a forum or chat before. Need to ask a question about cat behavior. Is this the right place to do that??

We just lost one of our 13 year old burmese cats,
after a few days we got a 3 yr old burmese,
Question; cats get along fine but she won't come out to be with us (husband & me) Does it take long for cats to start socializing with new people & new surroundings? My husband is very anxious about this. Help Please

It takes kitties time to warm up. In my experience kitties tend to hide for at least the first few days and sometimes a couple of weeks. Take it slow. You can offer treats like chicken to tempt the kitty to come out and it will also help him/her to see you in a good light. The fact that the kitties are getting along with eachother is wonderful. Usually they fight for a while to establish their pecking order.
