New addition to my family... :)

My friend found these two kittens by the everglades and pulled over to pick them up. Unfortunately, him and his mom are allergic to cats, so I took them in. Why? Because cats are independant and when I had my dog, she just wasn't happy with not having 100% attention.

Anyways, these are my new kitties... unnamed. Any kitty name suggestions? It's a boy and a girl, brother and sister. I'm taking them to get spayed/neutered this week and get the front paws declawed as they like scratching my sofas.

They are still terrified of me if I go up to them quickly, but I just got them a few hours ago.

Here are some pics:

Cute kitties! Have you thought about trying to teach them not to scratch the furniture or maybe giving them a scratching post before getting them declawed? If you put a cat tree or scratching post by the sofa, they probably won't claw it. Just my cause I don't like declawing and scratching posts worked for me

I will try moving the scratching post by the sofa... I had it elsewhere.

Thanks, guys!

hehe cute - they remind me of those las vegas white tigers.

Declawed... I use a wall mounted (screwed in) scratch pad, it's solid which is important, it works great and they never claw anything else. Don't forget the claws are their main defense against other things and also allows quick escapes up trees etc. If you can avoid declawing I think you should, you could maybe try those deterent chemicals too.

I hope that helps

Jess,

Congrats on the kitties. I am glad you got two, that way if they are lonely at all, they have each other. Glad you are taking them to the vet to get all of their shots and to get them fixed.

As for declawing, you might want to try alternative methods before going for such an "extreme". You probably don't know this, but declawing a cat is like cutting off your own fingers at the knuckles. Lots of cats have trouble re-adjusting after declawing. There are products such as soft paws that actually cover their claws. Plus, make sure your scratching post is sturdy, if it tilts or spills they won't use it.

Congrats on your new babies!

They look pretty happy to be inside for being feral. I think they will be very loving and attentive to you in no time at all. Okay so what exatly is that they are sitting on, it looks like some funky neo-primitive/urban chair but I don't think thats what it is.

Also, want to point out they are going to be strictly in house cats.

The thing they are sitting on is a table my sister gave me with glass on top. It's some rock type of thing.

I'll look at the alternatives to declawing. I'm going to attempt leaving them in the living room tomorrow when I go to work, hopefully when I come back there aren't things destroyed. The reason I thought of declawing was because my coworker's cat is actually declawed and was declawed at a young age. He is an amazing and sweet cat. My coworker/friend told me the cat adjusted quickly.

I need to take them to the vet and get them spayed/neutered as well.
I need to read up on cats too, have only had dogs.

Adorable little kittens! Unfortunately, I can't help in the name department though! I had enough trouble thinking of a name for our cat!!

As with declawing, if you do decide to, make sure it's laser surgery. The other method of the surgery is more painful for them, and I was told how it's done. My cat was front declawed only, and I put her on a pelleted litter for a while until she was healed. She does great! Friendly as can be and adjusted. I did it while she was still pretty young.

congrats on those two! how cute!

i agree about the declawing. i find it inhumane and would really suggest it only as a last option. but you are sure to find tons of info about alternatives here.

they look like twins! you could give them similar names. ???

another thing - they may want seperate litter boxes. you might want to keep that in mind.

good luck!! keep us updated!

Luckily they are litter box trained already with one litter box. They've calmed down on the clawing the sofas (ahhh, and as I wrote this one of them started doing it ), but I'll see what damage they've done when I get home from work tomorrow. Hopefully not much.

They chase each other a lot, I find it so cute. So far though they still run from me, I have to slowly approach each one to pet them.

Beautiful Kitty's,Congrats!!!
I love them when there at this age, makes me want get one there so cute, was offered a kitty last nite that looked a bit like them,if i had the room, she would be sleeping on my pillow today..If they are to ever go outside ,make sure they get thier shots for lukiema,[Mr.Bean] my 10 month old kitty died from fighting with other cats, the vet said we can pass major diseases to our cats just from touching another cat and then ours if they are not imunized.
