If it were just the ears, than yeah i agree there are a lot worse things that can be done to a kitten, but whats up with the neck thing? has she never heard of a collar? She could get her a cute little spiky one or something geesh!
The whole farm animal thing, i agree, its not right the way there treated, but honestly, since moving here, i can now see why they do things the way they do it. Cows, sheep, horses, etc, need to be marked some how because people do steel them. how someone would go about stealing a cow is beyond me, but it happens. And sadly branding is the cheapest way to 'mark' 300 cattle. And the sheep tails, well, i guess if they don't dock them then they get dirty, and attract flies.. which can then make them sick or kill them. So there are reasons they do the things they do, it may not be the most idea way, but its how they have to do it.

This is outrageous!(SP?)
I know a man up my street a few years ago was docking pups tails for £20 doing it with meat sissors(SP?) Someone of course handed him into the police but he still done it for along time, also he was found declawing, and docking cats tails to make them look more "excotic" like WTF? He was adventually caught and charged and was fined a few £, people in this world don;t give a D*** about animals because they cannot speak.

I think its wrong, I think anytime you change an animals appearance to suit your needs or likes is wrong, but thats just me, I would never dock a tail, ears or do any cosmetic change to any animal, nor would I pook a hole in them...I never pierced my daughters ears, I have a strong beliefe that its a persons choice and you shouldn't make the choice for them...my daughter is 14 and still no piercing, she doesn't want her ears done...to me its really wrong, its just horrid, so many things could go wrong...its just wrong

My mom was the exact same as you always brought me up explaining to me if i wanted a peircing it was my choice but always let me know the risks and what she thought of it.. and i actually got them done when i was 16 and she was fine but yeah i agree its uncall for, no animal should need to suffer 1 minute of "cosmetic surgery" just for us!!

I personally dont care what some person does to their body, but when they impose that on infants, animals, ect... those that dont have a say, that is not right and should not be done, there is no actual value of doing this, other than asthetics

Wow,I can certainly see the hypocrisy of deeming this act wrong but thumb's up to branding a cow.But a kitten?!! cats are domesticated longer than dogs-back to Egyptian times- so you'd think we were happy with what we have already? We have bred cats just as long as dogs to create certain traits and color patterns to appeal to our desires but to take a needle and actually hold the kitten still long enough to put a 14 g in its ear?? That IS barbaric.I can even see a 16 or 18 being a little better since it's a smaller guage and maybe the kitten could hold it's ears up somewhat. The neck one is just wrong altogether.
I don't agree with farm practices which makes it legal to brand,tattoo,tag,de-horn,de-beak,de-nail,and ALL the other cruel methods to raise the animals in a "convenient" manner using no vet authority, anesthetics, or proper healing techniques. And I don't agree with peircing a baby's ears I have a freind who had hrs done as a baby and she says now she hates that her mother did that without letting her grow older to decide if SHE wanted it done.
Is the ad wrong? in the actual article the lady being charged said that Snarley (or whatever she neamed it) with the docked tail WASNT for sale but the ad is FOR that cat...Maybe the article was wrong.

I put i'm not sure. I don't agree with it, however, it is ok to pierce babies, and besides, no one charges farmers with animal cruelity for piercing tags through the ears cows, sheep, goats, and so on... or branding horses or cattle and they don't use the most sterile of needles. they don't use needles, its a tag on a hole punch basicly
However neck piercings?

yeah but those piercing are for idenification and where they come from i think, well it horrible to do that to animals, it doesnt make them look more cute so whats the point in doing that?

Piercing a cats ears for fun is WRONG.
We dont tag cows and pigs ears for fun, we do it for identification.
Same with tattooing and or microchipping dogs, horses, pigs, what ever.
When you pierce a cat, you're doing it for fun, because you think it's 'trendy'.
If you have so many cats that you need an easy way to identify them, then punch their ears in a pattern, under anethstesia and as a kitten, or tattoo them, or what ever. But I highly doubt one will have enough cats to have the need to do that.
Cats routienly scratch them selves, or rub on things. The earring will rip out. Surface piercings on humans dont last that well, why on earth would someone think it would last better on a cats neck?
Docking tails is useful when your dog is a working dog, or has severe tail damage. Same with ear cropping. But since most dont work their dogs, theres no need for it.
As for piercing a childs ear, it should be illegal. Piercing guns get wiped down with alcohol, or just sit in it. THAT DOES NOT KILL HIV. You need an anti-viral/bacterial solution to do that, most have a contact time of 3-10 minutes, depending on the brand and strength. On a porus material like plastic that the guns are made of, it would deteriorate the guns.
Everytime you get pierced with a piercing gun, you risk getting a deadly, incurable disease that you could unknowingly pass on to others before you know your infected. If you're going to get pierced, go into a reputible tattoo/piercing parlor, that uses single use, sterilized PIERCING NEEDLES.
