PLEASE HELP! im desperate! (urinating in the hallway)

i have two cats in the house, they have both lived in this house for a while now.
however, recently they have taken to urinating in one of the hallways in the house.
they also poop there.

i dont understand.
we have even bought area rugs for the hall but they just go to the bathroom on top of those.

the hallway is right in front of the main entrance to the house so we would really like it to be clean and inviting.

we have tried the spray that is supposed to scare them away from the area...
we've provided extra litter boxes, and cleaned them more often.
we've changed litters...
we dont know what else to do.

Cats usually WANT to use their litter boxes. So when a cat is having accidents, it's usually a sign that something is wrong medically. I would take them both to the vet and get a checkup and urinalysis. A common problem when you see this is a urinary tract infection. It could only be one that is sick, and the other is just pee/pooing over his messes to put his scent there, too.

But either way, you won't know if one or both is sick until a vet visit is done. When you tell them what's going on, they will probably recommend the urinalysis (I'd be surprised if they didn't).

Pepper..... some cats hate pepper maybe you could sprinkle a little bit of pepper on the mats!!! My cat keep going to the toilet in the bathtub and we didn't know what to do, someone told us that they also don't like to feel of glad wrap. So we layed gladwrap in the bath tub and they never did their bussiness there again!! GOOD LUCK

yes i agree, my cat started peeing in the hallway when she had a urinary tract infection. a vet trip is a very good idea

Cystitis (bladder inflammation) and Bladder/Kidney Stones: Cystitis and stones are extremely common in the cat and can be very painful and life-threatening. Cystitis can lead to inappropriate urination (urinating outside of the litter box) and stones can cause a fatal rupture of the bladder. (Any cat that is repeatedly entering the litter box but not voiding any urine is in need of IMMEDIATE medical attention!)

With regard to overall kidney and bladder health, I cannot stress strongly enough how important WATER, WATER, WATER is in both the prevention and treatment of diseases involving this organ system.


Definatly take the kitty to the vet!
