Wink

What happened on the way to the house...

Well..................Jim and I found a kitten. And when I say kitten, I mean a 2 day old baby.

We're walking along, when we hear, "Squeek! Squeek! Squeek!" So I look over to a small field behind some houses, and I'm like, "Jim, go look in there." So he does and finds the baby kitten. There was an adult cat nearby that scampered away, but we didn't hear any other kittens at all. So I have him look in a few of the big bushes to see if he sees the litter. Nothing. I'm figuring, if there is a litter, even if the mom cat is there, they would still squeek a little. So we figure one of two things - the mom cat was moving them, or she kicked this one out. We had no idea if that adult cat we saw was even the mom cat.

Soooooooooo..........I took it. Of course. I mean, I couldn't just leave it out in a freaking field in 40 degree weather when I didn't know if there was a mom cat or what.

So we immediately went to Petsmart before they closed and bought KMR (milk replacement) and a bottle and nipples for it. Then we swung by the Vet ER to get some info. The nurse agreed that it was best to take it, said it looks like a boy, and that we should feed him every two hours and then stimulate him to pee. We fed him a little there, and then I stimulated him and he peed. So that's good. She said to make sure he poo's, though. So we'll see next time he eats (at 11pm Central).

We got a big tupperware thing, put a blanket on the bottom, a reading lamp inside (the kind that pivot around), and another blanket for him to cuddle in. We also added a beanie baby type stuffed animal. He is pretty comfy in there, but he mostly likes to lay on us under our shirt/sweater. He's on my ribs right now, under my sweater.

I think we made the right decision. If anything, at least there's another cat not making more babies and that will be neutered and shotted and taken care of.

And I've named him. Since we saw a lot of these on our walk and talked about them a lot, I named him Bluebonnet. Blue for short. I have no idea if we'll keep him. If we do, he'll have to be indoor/outdoor like Charlie (because of our doggy door, etc). If not, we'll adopt him to a good home.

Well, that's the story. I'll post pics in a bit.

That's how I got my Punk. I got out of a cab at my cousins house one night in the middle of december and heard little mews, we found him outside the doorway of an apartment next to her house, so we took him in. He lived with her for awhile, but she allready had two cats so we decided he should live here with me. He's the sweetest cuddliest boy, I feel lucky to have found him!!!

Aw thanks, guys!

Well, here he is. I didn't want to disturb him, so these aren't the best pics. I'll try to get some more next time we feed him (in 30 min).

See the lamp in there? Well, he's taken to sleeping between the two poles that hold up the lamp. So I put some socks in that corner behind the lamp, and now he rests his head there.

Ok, here are the pics...

Hope you liked them! He is pretty cute.

Ok, I know most of you liked his name, but I didn't feel like it really fit him. When I said it, it didn't feel right. So...

Name change!

Since he has a very rocker, very Billy Idol hairstyle at the moment, I named him Rebel. And it really fits him.

He is so cute!!

I liked the first name - but I think the new one fits him much better! For some reason, when you see the pictures, he just doesn't look like a Bluebonnet

I loove the design on his back.

Good luck with him!

He is a cutie! Soo did you get him to poop? LOL...when we rescued some kittens a few years ago, we had to stimulate them to do that too...kinda gross, but its worth it! They are so adorable when they are kittens!

Oh my goodness - what a great story, Jane !! A friend of mine hand raised a kitten years ago - he was the most loving cat ever .... I think they're different from typical cats when you've hand raised them.

Very cute!
