Yep, horses can age differently just like us. I'm thinking that if this horse truly is 17 that the poor gal had a really hard life.

After having spent 15 years in the land of thoroughbreds she does look a little rough - but kind. One of my vets had 3 dressage horses; last time my rear end touched a saddle I fell off and broke a finger. I decided then I was too old for that much fun!

I don't know a thing about horses..but my first thought when I saw her and read everything was that she looks very tired.
My daughter also rode with a friend for the first time last month and came home wanting one! Everywhere we went she noticed anything that had to do with horses.

LOL, I'd much rather pick out a stall than clean kitty boxes!
Need I say why? I'm kind of afraid.

I guess I should have said "Queen of Horses" rather than "Horse Queen". Thanks for pointing that out to me, Capn!!
I hate to clean the litter box. And since we've been in FL we've been letting John Robert go outside, and he had much rather do his thing in a natural environment. Works for me!!

I'm with Linda 100 percent.....mucking out a horse stall is WAY better than cleaning a litter box.
I LOVE the smell of a horse barn and horse sweat. I think they should bottle the fragrance and sell it!

Bubba and I always disagree on that - I love the smell of the horses, the hay, the leather and he thinks it is nasty. Same thing with diesel fumes. I went on so many bus trip in HS band many many years ago that diesel fumes have good association for me and he's rolling up the car windows and turning the air on recirculate.......
The lady I got Wallis from had friends from England who had never experienced skunk smell until she visited KY. She didn't think it was awful at all - which kind of shows that we are brought up believing something stinks (or smells good) without making that decision for ourselves. I've trained myself to think of skunk as not smelling all that bad - but then, I haven't seen too many skunks down here!

I agree with Crittercall. I grew up with horses and all their smells. I used to go out and fall asleep, lying on my horses back backwards (my head on her butt).
As for the age - it seems like Arabs and Ponies age better than most, and Appaloosas are almost up there. The oldest horse I've ever seen was a 52 year old Grade horse (Heinz 57), but I'd swear he had Appy in him!
