Tailed Copper
Lycaena arota
Description 7/8-1 1/4" (22-32 mm). Short spikelike tail. Above, male dull copper-brown, often with purplish sheen; HW has few black dots and some orange marks near margin. Female light orange with brown spots, shading, and wide FW margins; HW margin marked with orange. Both sexes orange to gray below with dark spots and thin wavy lines over inner 2/3 of wings, outer third with alternating bands of soft brown and white, straight on FW and jagged on HW.
