Okapi calf at London Zoo


Next time you visit London Zoo keep your eyes peeled for one of our latest babies - an okapi calf. The calf, named Jemima by her keepers, weighed approximately 50kg at eight weeks old. She is three-feet high and is staying very close to mum. It is likely that she will suckle for up to 10 months. She will not be fully developed until four or five years of age, when she will reach about six-feet in height.
