Caicus Skipper
Cogia caicus
Description 1 3/8-1 5/8" (35-41 mm). Dark sienna-brown above with a number of small, glassy, white dots and bars on outer FW. Below, FW lighter toward trailing edge; HW cocoa-brown distinctly banded with
dark brown, the bands outlined with black; HW margin frosted violet-whitish with brown striations, white HW fringe.
Similar Species Mexican Hoary Edge larger with a broader whitish margin on HW below and no obvious black outlines to HW bands below. Other members of genus very similar. Drusius Cloudywing larger, darker, with fainter bands beneath and without striations.
Life Cycle Unknown.
Flight 2 or more broods; March-August.
Habitat Tropical and subtropical thorn forests.
Range Arizona south to Honduras.
Discussion It is likely that this species feeds on leguminous thorn trees as do its close relatives, but it is poorly known here.
