"Spread Winged Skippers" Erichson's White-Skipper

Heliopetes domicella



Description 1-1 3/8" (25-35 mm). Broad black borders and blue-gray bases above, giving impression of broad, clear white bands crossing all wings. Below mirrors above, except for beige-pink bands on FW base and olive-green HW.

Similar Species Checkered-skippers lack pinkish bands below. Other white- skippers (Heliopetes) lack black bands above.

Life Cycle Unrecorded.

Flight 2 broods; April and August-October.

Habitat Forest clearings, edges, watercourses, and hilly scrub.

Range S. Arizona, Texas and perhaps New Mexico, south to Argentina.

Discussion Unlike other members of its genus, Erichson's White-Skipper is not common.
