1 1/8-1 3/8 " (28-35 mm). Above, dust-brown to smoke-gray, somewhat browner on HW, crossed by several rows of darker lines and partial pale bands and submarginal row of brown, blurry chevrons; 8 or 9 small glassy white spots
, more of less pronounced, form 2 broken, crooked rows from costa to middle of HW. Below, lighter buff with 5 dark concentric rows of darker scales.
Duskywings larger, darker with fewer glassy spots.
Early spring in Texas.
Subtropical woodland borders.
S. Texas south to Argentina.
Hoary Skippers rarely enter Texas, but may be more common than has previously been thought.
