Cabares potrillo
Description 1 1/8-1 1/2" (28-38 mm). Above, cocoa-brown with several white chevrons pointing toward FW tip; darker brown bands vaguely cross wings, and HW margin has distinctive bend. Below, frosty-white and cloudy-violet, crossed by
dark brown clouds and white chevrons.
Life Cycle Egg pea-green. Caterpillar brown with orange speckles and lines. Chrysalis tan, with violet tint and ashen powder. Host plant unknown.
Flight 2 or 3 broods in Texas; March-May, June, and November.
Habitat Tropical and semitropical open areas.
Range Extreme S. Texas to Costa Rica and Greater Antilles.
Discussion Visitors to the Santa Ana National Wildlife Refuge in Texas may see this skipper taking nectar on verbena.
