Can I use basil for re-introduction?

Hi all Today is the big day for the re introduction of my neutered degu back to the others I have changed their sand back and forth for the last days and I`m gonna disinfect the big cage before they go back inn there. The vet actually said I should put a perfume on all of them so they smell the same. Ain`t gonna happen, so can I just use something like basil to rub on their fur?

Thanks for any replies.

Sincerely,

Trinity

The best thing to use if you have any is a couple of drops of vanilla essence or extract in the sand stir it around and leave to dry

Hi,
Did the neutering work? Is your degu less aggresive now and are they all living in relative peace

Yes it worked out great It was really the last solution and I wouldn`t have done it if I was not desperate. The fighting got so nasty and bloody that they couldn`t live together anymore.

I just re-introduced them the other day, after weeks apart (the cages were close). I didn`t know what vanilla essence was, since I`m really lousy with baking and kitchen stuff, but I found out, and that was a great trick...! And I had many laughs smelling their vanilla scented fur... hehe I desinfected the cage before putting all my vanilla smelling cuties back and there was a small battle going on for about an hour, but just innocent girly fighting, standing on their hindlegs and battling with their arms... Hehe

There was complications though. Terje got an infection 11 days after the procedure. He had to be treated with antibiotics for a week. Then I really regretted getting it done...! If I hadn`t, he would have had to spend his life in solitude, which I did not think would be a good life for him as he is quite the cuddler too....

But now it is all harmony in our home Let`s pray it stays this way

Sincerely,

Trinity
