Chewing!!!

OKay...My degu has a lot of things in his cage to chew on...BUT for some reason he will chew on them for a day or two, then never chew on them again. My husband noticed that he was chewing on his bath tub[its made of wood]..so I am concerned that he doesnt like his chew things for some reason. The only thing I can think of is that his bath sand is getting all over his toys and it makes him not want to chew on them anymore. What do you think?

ALSO- He has a big multi-level cage and sometimes he will go into the corner and to me it looks like he is trying to dig[burrow] out of the cage. He doesnt chew on the cage just tries to dig through it...but what is funny is that he doesnt do it to the bottom, he does it to the side..?..if that makes any sense you you all. haha

Please help! and sorry my post is so long!

Maybe it's as simple as he gets tired of the "ok" toys, and wants the other things? Who knows, Degus do what Degus want. lol Have his toys gotten urine or something on them? Maybe he just doesn't like the toys. You could check if they're made of a different wood than the little house he has.

Mine have always been picky about what they wanted to chew on or play with, so it may be a matter of just trying loads of different kinds to see what he likes.

Other wise, my advice is to invest in a few replacement bath tubs for when he chews through this one. LOL

Oh, PS, I forgot! Degus are burrowers in the wild, so digging is very natural for them. You could try making him a digging pit in his cage, or for him to play with when you get him out. He'd probably really enjoy it!
