Cleaning the cage with babies in there...

I was wondering how we should go about cleaning the cage since we can't take the babies out? We usaully have all the adult degus out for playtime in the hallway when we clean the cage, but now that the babies are here I'm guessing that's out of the question.

The two babies from the first litter are 9 days old now and doing fine. We are expecting the second litter any day now. If we have to wait until they all grow up to clean it's gonna be one dirty cage.

How do we go about cleaning until they are old enough?

And how old do they need to be before we can take them out for playtime in the hallway and give the cage a proper cleaning?

Can you take the bedding out and replace it with fresh and spot clean the cage? I don't think it would hurt to place them in your hallway aslong as its degu safe and they are with mum, or what about making a pen for them to be in to limit how far they wander?

We are going to try cleaning around them. We can't really take them out since Luna still hasn't given birth. But good to know that when her babies are a couple of weeks old we can take all of them into the hallway for playtime
