Degu Cages?!?

So I bought a great cage for my Degus but the little one can get out. I really love the new cage, but Lodi keeps escaping. I am thinking of putting a plexiglass wall around the cage so he can't get out. The bar spacing is only 7/8" but he still manages to get out. Loki is bigger and hasn't managed to get out yet. Is it worth it to spend the extra money on custom fitting plexiglass around the cage so they can't get out or should I just look for another cage with wires closer togeather?

You could do a "do-it-yourself" job, if you're up to it!

You can buy a small animal playpen, that looks like short fencing. You can actually use the panels from the playpen on the outside of your wire cage to make the gaps smaller. You can attach the playpen panels with zip ties. Even if you needed to buy 2 or 3 playpens, it still might be cheaper than custom plexiglass, plus the panels still allow for good air circulation. Just an idea!

Best wishes! Degus are such smart and stinkerish little wiggle worms. lol

you could use hardware cloth to attach to the cage, you could use wire to attach it just make sure they can't touch any sharp edges.

Degu Cages

Thanks for the great ideas! I never thought about putting another wire playpen around the cage or cloth. I think I'm going to try plexiglass just around the areas where they can get out and if that doesn't work then I'll buy a playpen and try that. My fiance can get plexiglass at his work custom fitted to the cage. I'm only having him make it 6 inches tall which should cover where they could get out. And then I'm having him make pieces for each of the levels of the cage too. I should know by this weekend if it's going to work. Wish me luck!!
