Degu is sneezing all the time.

Please Help! Three months ago my degu got quite ill. He was sneezing frequently, very lethargic, barely drinking or eating, and had watery/weepy eyes. I took him to the vet, and she diagnosed a respiratory infection and gave him antibiotics. We got rid of all his bedding and just use shredded newspaper now to avoid dust, and we try to keep the humidity between 45 and 55%. He returned to his usual self within a week except for one thing; he sneezes continuously! He sneezes mostly late at night and early in the morning, but occassionally throughout the day. The vet has no other ideas for us other than an inoperable sliver that may be lodged in his nose. Again, he seems in perfect health in every other way and the vet cannot find anything wrong with him, but he has been sneezing usually in bursts of 5-30 sneezes for about 3 months now. Does anyone have any ideas or information for me?

It may be a side effect of the infection and he may have to live with it. Could be some kind of allergy though especially as its worse at some times rather then others, could be something like hay fever. I had a degu with something simular he lived to be 8 years old and never affected his quality of life. He was allegic to grass cuttings and air fresheners. Odd question but do you have any air fresheners in the room where he is?

My Degus had a constant sneeze at one point, it stopped when we switched to the small animal fluff. And they really love playing with it.
