Question

Degus tails going bald!! Why??

hello, it's been a while since I've been on here, but I have a question.

Three of my Degus are going bald on their tails. one of the males has no tail fluff left at all, and two of the females are starting to loose theirs too. I was wondering what could cause a degu to loose the fluffy hair on their tails?

Quality of the breeding is usually a lot to do with it, the genetics of the degu. In my experience i've found degus who we do not know the quality of the genetic makeup usually experience this problem whereas degus that have come from good stock don't. They also say poor diet can lead to it but if your degus are fed a good quality diet then it will most likely be a genetic thing

it happens in degus more then pepole think usualy 4 things
1)as said bordom
2) stress
3)diate
4) in the wild its a dominance thing the more dominant the degu is the fluffier the tuft is (Personal observation when studdied)
