Digging Pit

For Christmas, we got our degus an aquarium for a digging pit. I was told to use half chin dust and half organic compose. When we asked for organic compose, only one store said they had it and it was organic potting soil. I just want to check and make sure that this is safe for my little degus. The brand is Hortibec and the ingredience are: Peat Humus, Peat Moss, Sand, and Perlite. Is this what you use? Is it safe for my Degus? Thanks!

Also, how did you stimulate your degus to dig? Just let them play in it for a while?

The only worrying ingredient is the pearlite as over here in the UK that is like polystyrene balls to allow drainage but apart from that everything else is fine, you should be able to sieve the pearlite out if you are unsure. They should naturally dig as its a natural behaviour and something they would do in the wild
