many of you have advised me to give them nonsalted sunflower seeds. my local pet store said do NOT give your degu sunflower seeds (even nonsalted) it is bad for them. its like giving a diabetic suger. they love it, but that does not mean its good for them. dont give your degu sunflower seeds!

Im sorry, I dont mean to sound rude but you cant come in here and say that based on one persons opinion! Yes, sunflower seeds are fatty and bad for degus but you have been told to give them very sparingly, as a treat! Its the same with humans, sometimes we eat things with no nutritional value whatsoever but its because they taste nice and we love them, but we eat them as a treat!

The occasional sunflower seed, once a week or so, won't hurt your pet. It's a treat. Coldstone Ice cream isn't really good for me either but that doesn't stop me from having it once or twice a month.
