frantic female

We have had 2 goos for a couple of months and recently got 3 more.

We push the 2 cages together and all of the new ones are fine. 1 of our original ones goes mad chirping all over the place (female) the male is not bothered but he keeps going up to the female and stroking her with his paw from a distance. This is the only time he does this.

She screams at him and goes for him and he just does it again and again. I am worried that they will hurt each other.

Can anyone help me and let me know why he is doing this. It agrivates the female more who would otherwise settle down.

We have put the male with the 3 little ones and he was fine for a while but the female with just 1 of the little ones went for it.

Can anyone make any suggestions on how to proceed?

Have you gone through an introduction period with them? Scented them etc... ? If not this may be your problem as you are trying to put unfamiliar degus into each groups territory causing friction, it can take a long time and a lot of effort and patience to get groups of degus together so you may just have to hang in there and keep working with them Are you planning to breed with them?

Sounds like your little female may not be ready just yet to be such close neighbors with your new Goos.

I think Kirsty has the right idea. You may just need to go a little bit slower with your introductions. Some Degus just take a little bit longer to get used to new friends.

Your male Degu sounds like a lovely little man! She is lucky to have such a wonderful mate. What a gentleman!

Bullet is gorgeous and so laid back but I wish he would just leave Misty to it as he makes her much worse.

Do you think he is trying to comfort her or poke her to annoy her??

Misty is usually so friendly so we are going to have to take it really slow and steady with her.
