Gotta get another Degu

Hey all, I currently have a single male degu (Gizmo) who's sweet as anything, but lonely. So i'm thinking I'll get another male to keep Gizmo company. First off, I don't know where to find a degu because most pet stores around here don't sell them (i got Gizmo as a present) so if anyone knows a place in southern new york where i can find a degu, let me know. Secondly, how would i go about introducing the new guy into the household? I have a HUGE cage so i know that's alright, but i just need to know whether i should introduce them quickly just to see how it goes, or just let them see eachother from afar? let me know. Thank!

*degus are piles of fun *

oh oh! Another question about this! Do you think that getting a baby degu would be a bad idea considering my almost full grown current degu? Does the difference in age make a difference? Thanks!

A baby (6 weeks) would be actually better since older degus accept younger ones more easily.
If you donŽt find them in the stores, contact the Humane Society and rescue organisations first, or try www.degus.org (the classifieds) or www.petfinder.com or net which I think is better anyway.

It is a great decision to get him a same sex companion .

On www.degus.org youŽll find info about ho to introduce them

the trouble is, whenever i find somewhere online that has degus, it's hours away from where i live. i don't want to sound lazy, but i just don't want to drive four hours to get to a shelter, and i'm sure no one wants to drive four hours to get to me. If ANYONE knows of a place in southern new york, about an hour north of New York City, that has degus, please please please let me know. my degu is so lonely.

check out www.degus.org (buy/sell)
There are 4 baby degus available on Long Island, NY That would make a nice weekend sightseeing trip
