Question

HELP! fast

Hi Everyone,

My Degu's and I live in a residence where there is no air conditioning. The temperatures are said to reach 30 celcius (86 ferinhiet) outside. This means it will get very very hot in my apartment, probably close to 36 celcius (96 ferinhiet). Is this dangerous for Sunshine and Cheechoo? Is there anything that i can do to help them stay cool?? (i do not have a fan, as Sunshine, Cheechoo and I are moving out on Saturday)
Please help!!!

Thanks

wolvi2889

keep them out of direct sunlight and in the coolest location you can, maybe have a fan nearby for circulation

you could also get them a 'chin chiller' (it's for chinchillas but can be universal...)

If your degus aren't big chewers you can take a frozen water bottle and wrap it in a towel or something.

Freeze glass jars with some water in them (not full), also freezing flat stones or tile works well too.
Degus cannot sweat so the cooler you can keep them the better.

I agree with all of the above, keep them out of driect sun light, make sure as much air is circulating around the room as possible and maybe keep the cage at floor level as it is always cooler at floor level. A lot of things you have around the house would help such as spare floor or wall tiles chilled in the freezer or fridge, terracotta plant pots, rocks anything they can lay on as degus cannot sweat so lie flat to cool out on their bellies
