help with possible pregnancy please

hello everyone most of you know i have 4 degus whom i thought were male lately one has been getting increasingly large my concerns are he maybe a pregnant she

she is very chunky now and i have a second cage ready for the other 3 to move into i wanted to leave it till she had given birth or was giving birth as i dont know how long she has till she gives birth or even if she is pregnant or even a she so i dont want to split them up and leave a lonely goo on his/her own

today 2 of the boys have been fighting a little not major but a little rough and one of them wont stop mounting and etc the possibly pregnant goo is this normal will it harm her does anyone have any advice please for my predicament i cant even investigate her to much cus if she is i dont want to harm her or her babies and i dont want to make her lonely or have to reintroduce him if he is not a she as this is upsetting for all of them

i never intended to breed my angels i always thought they were boys i have tried my best to do research since i presumed the pregnancy i have a new cage ready and waiting so there will be a girls cage and a boys so this wont happen again i just want to know she will be ok or how i can help her

thankyou in advance for your help

I would separate the pregnant one, I know it's hard because she might get lonely, but fights could be dangerous to her/the babies. Keep the cages next to one another so that they can't fight but still can talk and see each other.
Good luck, and let us know when the babies arrive!

aww, that is so cute that the boys are being such gentlemen and are taking a good care of her! I have never seen a pregnant degu but she must be absolutely beautiful! I hope everything goes well when she's in labor.

Yeah I'm still trying to get over the loss of Skippy, a part of me wants another degu but then I imagine having one and I realize that I don't want just any degu, I want to have Skippy back. I need more time, I loved him so much and I know he'll aways be around, I just can't see him.

thats so true he will always be with you i dont think there is ever enough time in the world to get over losing our beautiful friends and replacing them is never going to happen

however love and support can help when greiving and im sure that a little fuzzy is out there waiting to have the same excellent quality of life that skippy had im sure that when your ready to accept a new little cheeky charcter in your life you will make a little goo as happy as skippy was

do keep in touch any support i can give i certainly will

a degu's gestation period is 3 months, unlike hamsters only being 1 month. you can oly start to notice it in the last month or so... sex her just to settle your mind its gonna be one or the other, if "she" has been in with males, then she possibly is pregnant. i dont really know about seperating her, the more degus around, the more they can help raise the babies, they are a highly social animal and i know that the fathers teach the babies to play, sooooo i would be in two minds about taking her out... and if you do notice any fights, then seperate the others, leave her in her surroundings you dont want to cause any distruptions or she may abort.
