How big of a cage for three?

We're looking at adopting from our local animal shelter. I wanted to get a pair of females, but my husband (suprisingly enough) said to get three (we have three kids....but I'd be responible for the critters), as in one for each kid.

We have a LARGE, homemade chin cage...our chin died 2 years ago and we just adorded her. From research on the degus, they seem a little heartier than chins?

Thanks.

I don't think degus are any harder to keep them chins they just require a more strict diet but apart from that they not any harder probably in some ways easier. A large chinchilla cage is adequate for 2-3 degus
