how do I find neat names?

I see that a lot of people with degus have such neat names for them, I was wondering where they came up with them. (I mean no offence to people who it's their language and it just looks neat to me.)

I like the ones manasmom has/had for her goos, along with a lot of others. I kinda want something that isn't english, and means something neat, like angel or something like that. I am planning on getting two female goos, so I want to have great names for them. I know if I pick names now they'll probably change when I get them, but I just want to have some options.

What would really be neat is some German names. My grandmother and Father are full German, so I kinda want to go along with something like that. But if you have other names, in any language, I am open to all options!!

Neat names,unique names,rare names,pet names,foreign names...things like that.You should find some.There is a name site I used to always use with alot of different names,the country of origin and the meaning...if I can find that site,I will give you the link.

Most of my boys have old fashioned names and ones named after Herbie the Love Bug as i love beetles

I am kind of a big nerd when it comes to naming my pets. I like to name them according to where they are from.

For example, my dog is half-Husky, so he has a Russian name – Nikolai.

When I wanted to name my Goos, I researched where they are from. I found they originate in the Andes Mountains in South America. So I researched various indigenous languages from that mountain range. Since Spanish was an introduced language, I opted not to name them Spanish names. Instead, I discovered an indigenous ethnic group to the Andes called the Aymara. They lived in the mountains there even before the Inca arrived in South America. So I chose names from their indigenous language.

My first Degu was named Masi, which means “friend” in Aymara.

Next name I chose was Imaņa, because it’s a pretty name, but it also means “to hide” in Aymara. When she first came to me, she was very shy, so it fit her. Her nickname is just “Maņa”.

The next name I chose was Chuqupa. That means “peanut” in Aymara, and I just thought it was cute! We always called her “Qupa” for short.

I hope that wasn’t terribly boring! ROFL!!! As I said, I am a nerd when it comes to naming my pets. LOL

No, I thought they were great names!
I have found some pretty neat names in Hawaiianthat I like, a couple are: Nani, which means pretty - Koa, which means Brave, Bold, fearless - Koke, qiuck runner. Some others are Ayita which is Sioux for little one, Milly which is Old German for energetic. What do you think. These are all girl names, I haven't really thought of any boy names as I am not planning on getting boys. Still open to suggestions!!

I think those are all lovely names! Many of them would work well for a girl or for a boy, I think.

Goodluck with your name search, i would wait till you get them as then you can see which names suit them. I've brought animals before and had names in mind but once they arrived i changed my mind totally as they didn't suit their name I like Milly

my nans dogs called herman i think you can probably guess what breed but i think it rhymes rather than a german name lol , i called my goo after salvidor dali cuz im a trainee art teacher and felt appropriate the other was degas the degu also artist however he kept vnishing from his cage and my partner nicknamed him houdini and it stuck as it suited him , anyway my point from this rambling is that sometimes ts easier to name an animal after you seen its charicter, any help?

Thanks. I tried to pick names based on what personalities that I've read that degu have. I don't really have a set name. So I am hoping that the names I have chosen matches their personalities, but if not, there were a lot more names, I just picked out these few.

Yeah, I do the same thing. I always get a nice list going of names I just like. Then, once the pets arrive, one just seems to "fit" them.

Don't worry so do I!!!! I can't wait till I find some. I have recieved the bad cage that i will have to resell, so now I can get the good one off of Martins cages. I will be going to a feed store tommarrow, so I will look at things!
