I didn't know degus eat flowers
I just saw this on youtube so I have to share http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aHq2A...eature=related
I never knew they like flowers, lol! The degu in the video is adorable. The song says "thanks a lot for the flowers" and it brought back pleasant memories for me. It is (or used to be?) the main song from the German version of Tom&Jerry that I used to watch sometimes when I was little .

Aww, they are really stuffing their faces! Too funny! That video is super cute. There is one hay that Imana likes and it has dried flower petals in it. I can't remember what kind of flowers they are, but she loves them.

Last summer, I took our girls, one at a time outside and pick them dandelions. They could hardly wait to get carried out the door! I miss my girls

Aw, bless the poor little guy. This is a big fear I have with Imana - she sometimes climbs in her playpen, and falls down on the edges of her houses. I'm always scared she'll hurt her back that way. I was glad to see that at least he does seem happy with his life - eat, play, all that good stuff!

I just watched the second video, poor baby! My sis' degu girl got paralyzed like this, first they thought maybe she broke her leg but soon it spread to the other one, too. She had diabetes and they had to put her to sleep, so sad .

Dandelions
I've noticed a few people saying they feed their goos dandelions. What part of the dandelions can they have? I've never fed my goos any dandelions before, but we are staring to get some around here and just wondering which parts of the plant are ok for them to have.

I feed mine dandelion leaves. I also used to do that with my guinea pigs when I was a teenager. They loved it. I never tried giving my pets any other part of the plant, I'm not sure if the rest is safe. The leaves are definitely OK, though. Your degus may not like the leaves immediately but may let they get little soggy first and then eat them.

Yeah, the leaves are really good for them. When I was little, my friends and I used to eat the yellow part of the flower - so that might be safe for Goos too. I'm not sure, so I've never given that, but I do give the greens too.
They're pretty popular around here!

I feed my degus a variety of dried flowers and leaves, they have rose buds, rose petals, sunflower petals, hibiscus and lavender flowers, strawberry leaves, raspberry leaves, dandelion leaves, hawthorne leaves, nettles etc.....
Regards dandelions all of the dandelion is ok to feed, mine often have the flowers dried

all 6 of my goos LOVE dandelions The girls will fight over them and the boys munch down the stems before they eat the flowers.
They also really love clover flowers.
