Idea of putting degu down

Well, a really hard choice is coming up. My female degu She Ra has had an impacted tooth for the last few weeks and it doesn't appear that the antibiotics are working. The poor girl can barely eat right, though she appears to be trying but has gotten so skinny. Today I took her out and found that shes scratched the hair on her mouth with the tooth to the skin. She seems to have life left in her, as she explores actively however watching her get so skinny is killing me to see. Has anyone had a case like this? Is it wrong to consider this option while shes still rather nimble, or should I still hold out hope at the risk of watching her get skinnier and skinner.

I really love this degu, and honestly when I first got her, she was super cold to me, but now for the past few weeks, shes been my cuddle buddy in my hoodie while I do homework or sit at my desk.

i had a rat once when i was younger with something like that im not sure if its the same, but her skin above her mouth started to, like, fall off. her teeth started to go out that area where ther was no skin, and they rubbed against the raw skin, she was in pain, she couldnt really eat, she had to turn her head almost upside down to drink her water, she still ran around. but she was in alot of pain. my mom had her put down because it was just to paineful for her to watch. im not sure if this helped but ive got nothing else.

My hamster Belle lived a lot longer than is expected of a hamster & as she got old, her teeth fell out. Bless her, watching her eat a peanut was hilarious ^_^ So me & my dad started mushing up her hamster mix & adding chopped up veg and a bit of water to it, sort of like baby food!

You could try doing something similar, but if She Ra is in a lot of pain, then maybe the unfortunate option is the best : ( Belle wasn't in any pain, she was just old.

Try asking the vet for some different antibiotics first, though?
