Luna is a mommy - with 100% success rate!

Well Luna gave birth friday night. I didn't want to write anything this time until we knew anything for sure.

We removed Balder right away and he is still going stir-crazy on his own, the poor sod

Today we finally got a peek at the whole family all together. 6 happy healthy degu babies, and 0 dead So we are thrilled.

We have been talking a lot these past few days and have decided that while the babies are cute, we don't like what the pregnancy does to the behavoiur of the females. So we are dipping into our savings, and throwing out some stuff in the apartment to make room for a second big cage and we are splitting up the males and females.

My husband said I should ask you all this: Can the two cages be in the same room? Or will the males still fight if they can see or smell the females. The cages would be set up oposite each other with about 2 meters space between them. It's the only place we can make room, so I sure hope that the answer is that it's okay

I think it will be fine for them to be in the same room, someone else that knows more will be able to help more. I am glad you are splitting them up. Especially if you keep any of the babies. I assume you will keep at least one male for your male to have a friend.

Congrats The cage should be ok in the same room but don't keep them side by side as the males will be able to see and smell the females and the females will be able to see and smell the males and it may bring them into season and cause the males to fight

But if they are across from each other with some meters distance wont they still be able to see each other? Or can't they see that far?

Right now it seem Balder spends most his time either running his wheel or staring longinly at the big cage with his women that is opposite him
