The cages look good, but I personally don't favour ones with all metal mesh flooring. Degu have quite delicate feet and can develop 'bumblefoot' if they have to walk on mesh all the time. Their foot becomes sore and inflamed. The floor of my cage is all mesh because I was advised to get it when I bought my degu (silly guy in shop!) but I always cover it with flat bits of cardboard or lots of straw to protect their delicate tootsies!

thanks, i never even though of putting them together! i might do that. I have checked out ebay and yea i can get the cages cheap enough but then there is like $100-$200 shipping depending on where it is coming from!

I was thinking of getting these straw/haw mats that they sell at petco and like that for the wire mesh or even i have some really fine carpet that i bought last year for the tank topper that i bought that i couldn't use (still got that btw anyone need a tank topper!! jk lol ). But i wasn't sure on the carpet if like they would chew it up but i got the finnest stuff there so thier little nails would be less likely to get caught on.

yea i was thinking of getting some of those leapin ledges and some additional shelves that are like corner shelves and stuff i found them at petco and petsmart also and they look like a good idea. I have a lot of hammocks that i made and have a cut up carpet roll for like a hanging tunnel and also an oatmeal container for an hanging tunnel! All i need to find is a regular wheel, how ling do you think it would take 2 goos to chew up a plastic wheel if that was all i could find??

I Wouldnt Put A Plastic Wheel In For 1 They Would Chew It Up Real Quick Plus Plastic Can Splinter Off And Harm Them I Would Get A Metal Wheel If Possible

It depends on the Degus. Some could tear it to shreds within 30 minutes, and some would leave it alone forever. I've had some Degus that would chew through anything plastic, and some that show zero interest at all in anything plastic. They make up their own minds regardless of what we tell them! LOL

ok, the cheapest all metal wheel i have found is about $30 I am trying to locate a wire rung one (i know bad for feet but keep reading!) because there are these little strip things you can buy that you slide inbetween the wire so it makes a solid running serface, or even what i was thinking is that i could like cut the sides of a cardboard cereal box and just weave it through the rungs, i know that goos would probably chew it up fast, but there are five kids in the house (i am oldest!) so there is always plenty of cereal boxes. I just can't find a wire rung wheel anywhere because they are unsafe!!

the metal ones are quite expensive but i find there the safest ones you could put something plastic in the cage and watch them and see if they chew it up if they dont your in luck you can get a plastic one thats what i did but mine chewed it up also the metal wheel with the things you can buy to put between the gaps sounds a good idea

another thing you could do is look at furniture stores that also have flooring, like simpsons, they sell scraps of linoleum (would they chew that? ) but, things too small for them to sell as remnants they may give you free or VERY cheap

The cereal box idea would work well. I found this one at PetCo's site. It comes in an 11" size for just $8. (plus S&H I assume)

We got our cage at petsmart and I paid $79.99 for it came with all the acessories. All I had to buy was shavings, the wooden tunnel and a wheel. Size is 36"x36"x24" with 3 stories total and they love it. But the hole gaps were too big for them and I had to buy 1/2x1/2 chicken wire and attach that to the cage to prevent them from escaping.
