Has it gone back in now? My degu does that every now and then but it isn't stuck out. He squeals and makes strange noises while "biting" himself (although he doesn't hurt himself) and it's out for quite a time. I'm guessing it really was stuck out if he let you touch it to put cream on it. Was it bleeding? I hope someone around here can help you because I have no idea. If it were my pet, I would probably keep an eye on him to be sure he was urinating and functioning properly. If he looks really sore, I'd take him in. But that's just my opinion, having no experience in that particular situation. Hope he feels better!

is this male on his own or with a male or female? its possible that even if his mate is a male he could have tried to mate with him did the squeaking last for a while? after mating the male degu will generally squeak for quite a while after mating or attempting to mate and it may take a while for his "thingy" to return to normal keep an eye on it but i wouldnt be overly worried unless he isnt urinating eating or drinking properly

Males degu's do have a tendency to mess with themselves so to speak in my experience with or without a female present and its perfectly normal but it should go back in of its own accord, like i'm sure it has many times before with him. I wouldn't really advise putting any cream on it as it is internal and could harm him inside so i would personally be wary of using any cream. I'd keep a close eye on him, make sure he is ok (eating, drinking and functioning correctly) and if it happens again i would get him checked out by your vet to make sure everything is ok with him. Please keep us posted
