Ralph Preggo?
Back in August I purchased 2 degu's and all has been fine until recently, Ralph is getting really plump and round and running away from us picking him/her up. Now I read other threads here that say those are signs of pregnancy. He also loves building nests out of grass and fluff and what have you. Is it possible that Ralph is pregnant even a year after being with Yoshi?

Degus only breed when they are ready and come into season when they are, some people keep male and female combos for years without a litter then oneday wake up to find 7 little faces rather then just 2 
Nest building on its own is not a sign of pregnancy as all my boys build nests and some more prolifically then others. I would keep an eye on him for now and try and cease handling if your worried. Did you ever sex them previously?

No, these are our first degu's and we just assumed they would be same sex. But I really have no idea. We put a pile of grass in their tank and they had this huge trail and burrow thing going on, and Ralph is digging out his tunnel a lot more these days but not doing anything with the fluff he digs out..?

try sex them yourself then you will know once and for all if you are going to have little baygoos, very easy to sex, there are good pictures on the net to help you

So, I looked at the pictures on the net on the Degu sexes and Yoshi is a male and Ralph is a female! Ralph is still gaining more weight, and a really nice nest was made yesterday after we cleaned their cage.  |
