Sorry to hear about you degu, i feel for you

Also, don't let other people's opinions bother you, you shouldn't have to worry about that kind of stuff RIGHT after your pet passes away... Some people don't understand that everyone doesn't have the min. $100 (just to walk through the door) it takes for a vet here in Canada.
I understand because I was in your situation a few months ago and when I took my degu to the vet (with money I scrounged up) the vet said there was nothing he could do and couldn't even help my sick degu that died in the vets office. Afterwords I felt
horrible for months for letting my poor degu (that was going to pass away regardless of what anyone could do, I believe when it's your time, it's your time) go through the stress of waiting for the vet in the office for 3 hours in a tiny carry bag and going through an exam was wasn't needed and dying uncomfortably with a huge metal examining tool in his mouth in the grip of some guy who he doesn't know and is scared of. I should have kept him home and nursed him and let him pass comfortably in MY loving hands as you did
Just because someone is in a tight spot for money (unlike some people who can afford $1000's of dollars in vet bills) most definately doesn't make them a bad
pet owner. Sure you should be prepared for such events as going to the vet but sometimes that just isn't possible.
Every living creature eventually passes away and there is nothing we can do about that. Sadly, it was obviously your degu's time to go and even though you couldn't afford the vet, at least she died in your arms where she liked to be.
(Sorry for the long post but the unnecessary, mean, horribly timed comments made to you even hurt
my feelings)
I don't expect a reply or argument telling me I was wrong on my post as it is very immature to blame someone for something like death.
I feel for you melanie and I'm sorry your degu passed away.
