Personally, I LOVE that you ask all these questions I think it's awesome that you want to know so much, and I'm learning as well
I'd never even thought about ropes until now

I also think it's wonderful that you're asking so many questions before hand. I wish ALL pet owners went about getting their pets in such a responsible way! There need to be more pet owners like you.
I think it's great you're trying to make a hammock! I have an idea for you that requires no sewing. (Funny, I have the SAME effect on sewing machines! They hate me!!) Take an old washcloth that is ready to be a dust rag, or ready to be thrown out. Poke a hole in each corner, and use clips to hang it! Tada! A comfy, no-sew hammock. But I think it's great that you're working on making one, and a special one at that! Goos love hammocks.
The rope - Yes, I got mine at WalMart, in the bird section. It's the Booda brand. I'm not sure how thick it is, probably not quite 1 inch thick, if that helps? Whatever size you get, they'll be climbing on it! I remember it being pretty cheap at WalMart, though I don't remember how cheap.
I also got a little wooden bird ladder at WalMart, and Mana LOVES climbing on it and chewing on it. It's pretty flimsy, so I don't put it in her cage, it's a toy she gets to play with in her play pen each night when she has her "party time".
Years ago, I got Chuqupa a really nice wooden bird toy with a bell on it. DO NOT BUY YOUR GOOS ANYTHING WITH BELLS. LOL She rang that thing 24/7 for many weeks. I started to go crazy! It was like torture. But she really did enjoy ringing that bell. I, on the other hand, did NOT! lol
The bars in my cages are probably around 1 inch apart. (Ok, I just pulled out a ruler and they're just under 1 inch apart, I'd say maybe 7/8 of an inch apart.) I've not had any escapees squeeze out through the bars yet.

Those are great Hammocks, the only thing is the currency. I don't know how to convert pounds--or whatever it is-- into US dollars.
The corner hammocks are so neat! I wouldv'e never thought of that! What about the slumber tunnels? Would they be ok, since goos tend to nibble--or so I've heard! That's a great page, I only wish it were in US currency and not only paypal! I'm not old enough for a credit Card, so that wouldn't work either!
Yes, there was a medium size of the bendable rope, I just listed the biggest and smallest. I will have to buy one--or two?--to put in the cage.

I think at the moment there is two US dollars to the English pound so if its £5 english pounds it would work out at about $10. Worth keeping as an idea as its something you can ask your parents for one a birthday or Christmas etc....
All my goo's have slumber tunnels and they love them I went for the plain fleece ones as less to nibble and they wash really well too, although they sulk when they have to have them removed for washing The slumber tunnel probably wouldn't be all that hard to construct your self if you fancied a challenge Might be easier then constructing a hammock as you could do the fleece in one piece and hand sew it if you didn't want to use a machine
Manas Mom i hear you on the bell i made that mistake in the past and i couldn't take it out as he sulked when i did, i was thankful when he grew bored of it after about 4 months of non stop ringing

Thanks. I will be sure not to buy a bird toy with a bell on it!! LOL They have other wooden ladders that are really sturdy--I have one for my parakeet!-- they're woodenand they have two hooks on the end to hook it on the cage. As for the ropes, they don't have any more of those ropes. Wal-mart is getting rid of all their small pet and bird things, all they have is the primary food, and only one brand for each type of animal I will have to depend on small pet stores and Petco. I am sure Petco had them but for $$$, this small petshop is really cheap.

I am going to Home Depot--or a store like that-- to see if they have any scrap carpeting that they would be willing to give me to put on a wire cage. While I was there I was going to see if they had any of those tubes that the carpet comes on. That is pretty big, so I figured, instead of going to Petco and paying $8, I could just get that. They are really huge, so I would get like, 10-15 of those chubes out of one carpet role!! I just don't know how I will cut it to size!!!

Ok, I'll have to check around. There aren't many stores around me that has carpeting, but I'll see what I can get. Hey, maybe I'll get really luck and they'll cut it for me!! But I think that's pushing it a little!

Is there anything else that they are really intersted in? Like any ferret toys? Also, I am just curious if anyone has ever tried to dress up their goo. I see so many ferret and rat clothes that I got wondering if you could dress goos up. What about a leash and harness. I think that is going a little to far, but hey maybe some one does it!!!

You guys are making me sick for real degus... I see you guys talking about them ringing bells, sitting in hammocks, climbing ropes.... All mine do is run on the wheel and sit all day... I have stuff in there for them to do, there are bells, hammocks, boxes, tubes all kinds of stuff, but all they want to do is chill... maybe it's because they were deprived of goo toys when they were little, perhaps I'll have more gooish luck with the babies.

I got little Ferrett tennis balls for my girls a while back. Imana didn't care about it, but Chuqupa would tote it around everywhere! She packed it around wherever she went.
Each individual Goo has their own preferences, and you quickly learn what they like and don't like as separate little people. For example, Leplake's Degus have apparently decided to treat her home as a little Goo retirement village. There's much to be said for lounging poolside and having a bit of a drink or a run. They each decide whether they'll use what you've given them, or not. And there's just no changing a Degu's mind once they've decided! lol
I can't imagine any harness that a Goo couldn't escape from! Nor any clothes they couldn't slip out of or eat in 2 seconds flat. LOL

I've got a preggo goo actually two I think, unless one was too young to carry all the way (still can't really tell) lol, I was all excited to get degus, I researched them all day for weeks, then I finally got them, and I think they are probably the laziest goos on the face of the earth, except for when they are running away. >.< Definitely not what I expected. I really think the woman who had them before me simply deprived them of goo worthy toys. But I love them to pieces anyways.. I just hope the babies momma doesn't teach them to sit around all day, I want REAL goos! lol

LOL
Well, no wonder they're quiet if they are with children. You know, maybe the babies will enjoy your toys so much they'll teach their Moms to use them too!
Wishful thinking, but it will be interesting to see what happens! lol
I am looking forward to seeing those babies when they finally make their appearance!!
