Question

trimming degu nails??

Is there a way to trim degu's nails?? Ours are starting to scratch me when I hold them. Any ideas?

You could try putting some river rocks, or other stones in their cage - say, as a platform to reach their water, or food dish. That way they have to climb on it, and it can give their nails a bit of a file.

Otherwise, I would suggest probably using a nail file, rather than nail clippers. (As the nails are so thin and tiny.) Wrap your Goo up snugly in a towel (I call this the Degu Burrito, LOL) and do one foot at a time. Don't wrap too tightly, as you don't want to restrict their breathing, just enough to restrain them. You might enlist the help of an assistant to hold the Degu Burrito, while you file. Probably 1 or 2 passes of the nail file per nail would suffice, you just need to dull the sharp point.

Then, if you can add some rocks to the cage, they might be able to keep their nails in shape for themselves.
