Wheels
hi all...
i need wheel advice!
my girlies have gone through 4 silent spinner wheels now and its costing me a fortune so can anyone please advise on other good quality, sturdy wheels? I really need it to be as quiet as possible as they are situated in the lounge and quite often prevent us from watching tv!
top requirements then:
¤ quiet as poss
¤ very durable (for three degus who run MILES)
¤ cheap as possible, but willing to invest in something good quality!
cheers guys!

I have one of the metal ones, and when it gets squeeky, I put vegetable oil where the wheel meets the stand.
I haven't found a /giant/ plastic one that would suit mine, so that use the metal one.

I use a wire mesh wheel, very similar to the one pictured here on Drs. Foster & Smith:
Run Around Mesh Wheel
You can get them other places too, I got mine either at PetSmart, or another local pet shop, I can't remember now.
I have the giant 11 inch wheel, and am still on my first wheel! Each of mine had their own wheels though, so I am not sure how it would fare with 3 wild and crazy goos sharing it. It's all metal though, and well constructed, so I think it would probably be your best shot.
I also put vegetable oil on the axles, and after doing that, it is totally silent!

I also use the wire mesh wheels as pictured so another thumbs up from me I've had silent spinners in the past and the weight of 4 degus piled in didn't help it last very long at all So i opted for the mesh wheels, which i consider as safe as the silent spinner and a lot safer then the open barred variety. Another option if you have a spare £40 or so would be a John Hopewell wheel. They are solid metal and top quality but are an expensive option copared to the mesh wheels which are about £6-8
I also use veggie oil or butter to lubricate my wheels when they become squeaky

I use the same wheels and also give them thumbs up . It would be nearly impossible for a degu to break one.

My girls love their running saucer! We have had it for three years now and the only problem is that they sometimes use it for a bathroom.
We have the smallest one and it's big enough for two degus to run tandem or two degus to run and one to go along for the ride.

thanks for this guys!
I'm looking around for one of those style wheels, but so far, NADA!
Internet shopping here i come!
I'm removing the silent (ha ha ha) spinner in the evenings now and giving it back when we go to bed. However this means that we get woken up to the dulcet tones of a broken wheel at silly o'clock!!!

I'm lucky my goo's tend to go to bed at night and usually surface about 8am, one lot started doing it and the rest followed

8am!!! I'm sooooooooo jealous!!!
Mine are up at 6 until i leave for work, then they go back to bed until i get home (around 6) when, and go on till midnight! Funny though, they don't get up when my boyfriend gets back. i've seen them in bed as i walk past the window and they're out in the wheel within 2 mins of me being in the house!
ps... thanks for the wheel posting offer... i'll bear it in mind!

Mine seem to have gotten into a pattern think its because i'm around in the day (as i work in the animal room, i work better surrounded by them for some strange reason ). They all tend to be up and about from 8am taking in a siesta mid afternoon and then resurfacing till about 11am when they all have their supper and then settle down into their hammocks for the night. I sometimes check on them in the night and i know Bertie and Herbie must recognise my footsteps as they have a special cooing noise that they use just for me (use it whenever they see me) and when Adam checks on them they don't do it
