Question

Ham eating Hammie?

Hey there
Just a question should a hamster eat ham? Luncher and I were sharing dinner and she wanted no part of anything I tried to give her but she kept stealing ham off my plate I finally let her have a tiny peice and she ate it right up is that ok for her?

If you give her a hammie size portion it is okay, ham is okay, scrambeled eggs is a favorite, most fruits and vegetables are okay, some foods may give your hamster gas-I know Stunner if he had popcorn watch out because it sure stank!

Remeber hammie sized portions are what is important, you don't want him pouching the food and it spoiling and him eating it spoiled later!

OMG, I didn't no you could feed hamsters people food. I use to have 6 rats and they ate like we did. I got them ratty bags when we went out to eat. But never stick your finger in their cage or they would devour it!(as a little girl found out 1 day visiting my house).

I give Hammy a bit aof ham for a treat sometimes. She loves it and wants more everytime! Be careful not to give him too much though because it'll spoil him.

I have never read anywhere about feeding ham to a hamster.I have however thru my research read where fish or chicken(boiled or baked) are okay in moderation.
One thing to remember is giving too many treats are not good for your hamsters as with any pet.A few other treats I have found while searching the net include these
Acorns
Almonds (shelled)
Beechnuts
Biscuits
Boiled Potatoes
Brazil Nuts
Bread (fresh or stale)
Breakfast Cereals
Cake - but not chocolate cake
Cashew Nuts
Chicken (cooked)
Cheese
Coconuts
Crickets
Currents
Dog Biscuits
Egg (scrambled or boiled)
Fish (cooked)
Hazel Nuts
Mealworms
Meat (cooked)
Nuts
Pecan Nuts
Peanuts (shelled or unshelled)
Pistachio Nuts
Prunes
Raisins
Sweet Chestnuts
Sultanas
Toast
Walnuts

well thank ya'll for the feedback
much appriciated. Nice to know my Luncher's not a freak. well she is actually, it's why I love her, but I mean over the meat eating thing. now if I can justget he to take a treat when i have it on hand and not be so stubborn about when she'll aknowledge food. Not to mention the using her house as a toilent and sleeping under the wheel isntead of vice versa. lol what can I say you've gotta love them

All of my gerbils seem to love toast. I had no idea.

All five pups are nibbling.
