Some times hamsters will chew bars regardess. Some pople will rub lemon onto the cage to stop this. But before going that route make sure he has plenty of things to chew inside the cage first. Do you have chew sticks? Try letting him out for more running time if he seems bored. Some hamsters are just chewers, especially when they are younger.

With me? My husband think I am NUTS since I talk to my hamster. If I saw him chews on bars (on top as well) to try to get out. I would yell at him and let him not that I won't let him out of his cage to play if he keeps doing it. He seemed to understand me though. Am I nuts? Hahaha.

Hamsters just climb, I think. I had my babies and when I seperated them, they were all over the cage. Get him something to chew on, they sell little blocks and chew sticks everywhere. The bars can usually withhold chewing. I moved mine to an all plastic cage when it got too bad.

I tried that once.

she chewed the glue and stuff on the bottom.

and the black edges.

but her attempting to climb was really funny. her body all flattened against the glass, her top feet skittering. No hope!

Human Training

My hamster has ME trained... every night she wakes up at about 8:15pm... then at about 9:15pm she climbs up the walls and bangs around like crazy.. chewing the bars and everything.

I come over to the cage, and let her out.. play with her & put her in the ball for about 30+ mins (any less and she refuses to go back into the cage & continues to make a racket).

After the ball she will go back into her house, take a drink of water and hop onto her wheel... She doesn't make anymore noise until the next night *lol*

She has me trained so well!!

Some hamsters, like mine, gnaw on things like that, even with plent to chew. Mine lives in an aquarium, and chews his wheel.
