Hamster's smelling worse then ever is this normal??

Hello, this is my first time posting a message on here. My question is, I have three hamsters two girls one boy. My female hamsters urinate alot and it has a very strong smell. It gets bad after only two days cleaning them. It's so bad I can smell them across the room. I was told my a vet that hamsters retain water and drink alot less water therefore their urine gets stronger and just to feed fruit to help. I'm not sure how active they are since they come out at night and because they are on the top shelf of my shelving unit. The one hamster is in a standard hamster cage and the other is in the critter trail cage. I find the one with the critter trail cage to urinate and poop in the little sleep loft above so much that it smells so bad and I'm afraid she will get sick. Is the vet right about the drinking thing. My male hamster doesn't smell that bad at all in fact he's not bad if I don't clean him for a week. What should I do??? I'm not sure about this since I don't think I've ever encoutered this problem in all my years of owning a hamster. Thanks for an advice anyone can give me.

Maybe try a different cage?? I used to have a critter trail cage and i found it pretty hard to clean and that my hamsters would only urinate and poop in the places i didn't want it too lol.. The sleep loft at the top is especially hard to clean. maybe try a simpler cage?? im not really sure.. just a suggestion. Good luck

smelly female hamster urine solution:

Try putting clumping, clay kitty litter in your female hamsters sundeck. Since she already urinates there-she probably will go right in the kitty litter-no more smell. Then you can remove the clumps. I had the exact, same problem with our female hamster and the kitty litter in the sundeck works for us. Now, if I could just find out why my hamster has stinky urine and what to change in her diet I would feel even better. Good luck!

I've heard that diabetes can cause excessive drinking and urinating. You might want to cut back on her sugar intake, and if that doesn't work, take her to the vet for a diabetes blood test.
