how much room is too much?

My hamster didn't like his cage (wire and plastic critter trail) and he decided to tell me he needed more room by figuring out how to open the cage door by himself, then pulling the carpeting out from under the door to get out of my room and I later found him in the laundry room sink. He now has that cage connected to a 15 gallon aquarium with S.A.M. tunnels, I'm wondering how much room is too much when it comes to syrian hamsters. I don't want to over due it but I think he should have more space then he currently has, I'd put him in a cavy cage but he'd get out. currently im guessing the size of his cage not including tunnels to be about 25 gallons or so

I don't think you can have too much room for any rodent, although, for example, in my situation I can't afford the space for anything too big, I am gonna build a bigger ratty palace, but it will have to be tall rather than wide, and I think that is the only restriction apart from the fact that the more room you give them, the harder it gets to find them when they are hiding....

I know groups of gerbils shouldn't have too large of space otherwise there is a larger risk of declaning, and I guess ive never had a hamster so bound and determind to tell me he needs more space, I usually just keep them in a glass aquarium.

Well, I don't think there is a 'too much' when it comes to Hamsters & Gerbils! I have A 24 inch long Cage (not tank.. cage!) for my 2 gerbils that I just got 2 days ago and they love it!

I'm not sure. If he is using the whole of the space provided, than I'd say that thats fine, but some hamsters can get depressed if they have so much space that they don't know what to do with it. I think yours is fine thoughas long as he's happy

My hams-all Syrian-have two large plastic bins each connected by tubes. They all seem very happy!! Here's some pics: The first on is Sammy's--Patches is identical, so I didn't post hers, and the 2nd one is Coco's!!

im not sure i like him being in the aquarium last night i noticed he's missing like 4 of his nails and i think its from him hanging on the edge on the top of the cage under the cover, I cant take everything out that would let him reach the top because hen he couldnt get into his other cage
