I once heard of a rabbit who got aggressive when you reached in her tank; but was very gentle outside. Never reach in. With really tame dwarfs I can reach in but with a sunflower seed in front of my fingers. They happily pouch it.

My floor has a lot of stuff on it too. I like to think of it as an obstacle course for Sesame.

So , Sesame threw up the other day after eating a crispy hamster waffle treat. She's eaten these plenty of times before with no problem. She has no other symtoms and has seemed perfectly healthy since. Is that normal?

21 day old dwarf hamster..help me!!!!

I recently just got a dwarf hamster when he/she was only 18 days old, I've heard that they're not even suppose to be re-homed that early, so now I'm wondering if theres anything else I should be feeding it? also is it possible to tell the gender of it now? i thinkits a girl but I'm not sure, and the hamsters weren't seperated in the cage where I got it from is there any way it could be pregnant if its a female?

hi sorry to like change the subject just a tiny bit but i need help... my 1 and a half year old chinese dwarf hamster Noodle has a lump on her back. It feels about the size of a bean and is quite fatty. Its in the middle of her shoulder blades on her back and the anti-biotics don't work... the vets gave me them just to make sure but they thought it was a tumour but a few weeks ago it went away... but now its back. It isn't causing her any discomfort and her sister Rolo doesn't have the same thing. I was just wondering if you had any idea. Thanks x

She may have been really fond of his scent. (Sesame Seed is absolutely adorable, by the way!). I had 5 dwarfies (4 now, one passed away this past September) & Prima, the friendliest of the bunch, seems more fond of certain people than others, even upon her first meeting them. Hamsters have personalities & intuition, just like humans do. The nipping might be the way she says hello. Donna (who passed away in September), Prima's sister, would only let me hold her for a few seconds before she'd start nipping. I think it was her way of telling me to put her down. When she was really upset, though, which wasn't very often, she would bite down. If they wanted to really hurt you, they could. I've had other dwarfies draw blood from me before. Sometimes it's just how they say hello. Donna used to nibble at my nails if I put them through the bars of her cage, but she never really hurt me (only when I was inspecting what I thought might be an injury or something & she didn't like the way I was holding her). Prima & Donna are winter whites. My robos have never gotten used to me & I've had them for a little over a year now. Some hampsters are just shy. She's probably just still getting used to her new surroundings. You sound like you'll be a great dwarf hamster mom! Congratulations & I hope she brings you lots of love, smiles & joy!

It sounds like it could be a tumor, although the fact that it went away on its own for a while is kind of weird. Tumors don't respond to anti-biotics to my knowledge. It could be a cyst, which is harmless as long as it isn't hurting your little baby. I'd call the vet again & see what's up.

Thanks for the info. We had thought that it might be a cyst at first or just a fatty lump and its not harming her in anyway shes still very active and likes all her treats. When we took her to the vets the first time they said that the only way we would be able to tell was to have a biopsy but it wouldnt be fair to put my baby through that as there is a chance she wouldn't survive it and they said as long as it wasn't causing her problems then we wouldnt need to go back. I just wanted to see if anyone else had had this before. I will inform you if anything else changes or if i find anything else out. Thanks again! x
