New Yum-Yum!
I saw on my safe hammie food list that I could feed petstore crickets. So I was there yesterday buying hermit crabs and picked up a can in the reptile section. All three of my hammies went absolutely nuts for them!!! Even Patches who always hides her food first, couldn't resist gobbling it down!! Anyone else tried feeding their hamsters crickets?

Oh my gosh! I had no clue that they could eat crickets! I have never heard of that before and I cannot believe it is good for them! I will have to look into that

I hope it's good for them! I was given a two page list off another hamster forum (hamsterhideout). Here's the protein section:
Meat/Protein foods:
Cooked, unseasoned ground beef (lean preferred)
Baked/Steamed, unseasoned Turkey/Chicken
Low Fat Cottage Cheese
Grasshoppers (pet shop only!)
Mealworms (pet shop only!)
Crickets (pet shop only!)
Eggs (boiled/scrambled, plain!)
Plain Tofu
Plain Yogurt (no sugar added)
Dog Biscuits (make sure there is no garlic/onion in these!)

I read you could feed them to them there aswell, I will try them if you get some positive feedback. I need a new treat for skittles, she doesnt seem to like any so far, I am waiting for her to wake up and try these new gooseberry branches I got her.

I am wondering now if they mean live crickets only?! It doesn't say "live", I bought Exo Terra Crickets in a can in the reptile section. I hope it's okay for them--they LOVED them!!

I think you can feed them dead or alive, I dont like the idea of hamsters running around after crickets

Yeah, that sounded creepy to me!! I did see on a site earlier where they said to enclose the area where you feed the cricket to the hams, so they can chase them around. EEEEEWWWW!!
