I think its a matter of size and age here. Hes probably almost 2 years if not more , its monstrous and I have the feeling its leaking inside of him too.
Its taken up so much space on his little body I really think that he might die on the way there let alone during surgery. Id rather he pass away in a cuddle cup!
There are parts of it that are harder than others...it makes me worry.
Also, his fur is very thing, i can see his skin sometimes, i suspect a second cysts/tumor on his side as well.
How exactly do they drain cysts at vets? with a needle?

If hes that old, I think it would probably just be better to put him down, or let him pass away peacefully. All that trauma for just a few more months of life just wouldnt be worth it.
But, if you did take him to a vet, the would put him under anethesia, take a biopsy sample with a needle and look at it under the microscope, and it its a cist, they would make and incision and drain it.
I was observing at the vets on Monday, and there was a baby hamster with a massive lump on his chest, but after they biopsied it, it turned out to be cancer, and they had to put him down... It was really sad, but at least the little guy didnt suffer.

I'm anxious for an update on the little guy.
But like Jess said it's probably best to put the little guy down, since he's already been through this much trauma, I wouldn't be surprised at the pain he is in now, but like I said, it's good that the little guy was in your hands.

So the past few months Ive had an ad on Craigslist about selling a laptop. I finally had a good offer and the man who bought it was a holistic medicine expert for animals! He spent the whole last night talking to me giving me holistic and house hold items to help this little guy and my rat Bishop!
When i woke this morning, THE CYST/TUMOUR WAS HALF THE SIZE. I'm not sure if it leaked out...or what?! But hes happy looking. He is also pain free. Running around his wheel and eating too! I have no idea what happened. Hes so cute! His name is now Fuji btw. Haha.
I called Sean right away and he told me its very likely it did leak because of its massive size, it could either be eliminated through waste (pending where/if the fluid absorbs), reabsorbed by his organs, or if it really is a tumor the fluids could hurt him in a few days of sitting.
In case that it is going to hurt him, Sean brought me a bottle of Kwan Loong oil and also some very low dosage baby medecine for asthma to dilate the hamster pathway to ensure if his his breathing is OK. Its a Chinese holistic medicine used for pain and ache relief, it makes us humans feel relaxed. It have 0.5% of chloroform. Its a very small dose but it would allow for the hamster to sleep peacefully. The smell is very aromatic too.
If he does end up in pain, it would allow him to relax and feel no pain as he slips into a forever sleep.
Right its the waiting game to see if the fluid inside of him is deadly. Im taking about 2-3 days to watch him closely...if at any time I see him in seroius pain like before, im not letting him go throught it again. However, if he seems fine and happy like now were going to my exotic vets right away to see if the rest of it can be removed and health check up.
But for now, hes happy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Awwww, thats so great! Im so happy for the lil guy! <3
But about the posibility of the cyst leaking... Are you sure that there isnt a hole on the outside that it could have drained through? If my pets get cysts, there is usually a crusted-over part of it where it ends up draining. If your hammies cyst drained on the outside like that, you should but hydrogen-peroxide on it to kill bacteria, and try so keep him as sanitary as possible untill you get to the vet. Good luck with him!

Ive checked him very thoroughly and found no hole...:C.
He looks so much better except a few things...
His scent gland is always going, maybe its from the cyst pressure? :C
He butt always has yellowed fur too. His poop is not drippy though!
I had a question about his fur type, is it normal to be able to see skin no matter where? or is it thinning?
ALSO! A vid and and pictures. I think he looks great right now.
Thanks all for the help and comments. Im hoping everything goes well for Fuji.

Beautiful couloring, makes him look like a hedgehog! I was just wondering, from what you said it sounds like it may be an abcess? The yellow fur is more than likely just stained. Your both in my thoughts!

Awwww, hes such a cutie!
Their fur does tend to get thinner once they get up there in age, so I wouldnt worry about it, and its normal for the fur around their scent gland to be a little stained or crusty.
Besides that cyst, he looks pretty healthy to me!

Hes...ok I guess. My Vet thinks the best way for him to pass is naturally, removal is out of the question. Hes been pretty slow the past few days....
