sick hamster...unknown cause

So my black bear hamster Princess was gaining alot of weight in her mid section so i took her to the vet that i work at. So they did an ultra sound and an x-ray and could see nothing but fluid in her abdominal area. So we decided that the best thing to do was to drain her poor huge belly. well when we did the brownish/redish fluid came out. So 30 c.c's later she was back to her normal size and we did an ultra sound again and it looked like their might be a cist or something somewhere in her belly. Unfortunately neither I nor my boss knows what caused this because he and the other vets had never seen a tumor or cist cause this kind of fluid build up. I have decided to do research on this so i can figure out the best treatment to do for her...because other than the fluid build up she's perfectly healthy. Unfortunately I can't find anything on this problem, I did run in to some stories that sounded similar with black bears with enlarged abdomins but no one talked about treatment or what it was. So I was just wondering if anyone could help me out. If you know any info on what this might be or if you've heard of something like this before let me know...I just want a healthy hammy! thanks!!

Samwise my black bear hammy had a hernia when I first got him. This caused a lump on the side of him giving him an enlarged abdomin. I haven't heard anything about other hamsters having this problem really. I know that the doctor thought it was a cyst originally until she opened Sam up. The lump on his side felt grainy when squeezed. It didn't seem to bother Sam. He never slowed down, but I know this condition can be very dangerous. I think the vet would have noticed if this was the case with your hamster. It never hurts to double check though. I hope you hamster gets all better. I know how it is to have a sick hamster.
